Event Report | Sustainable Governance, Risk, and Crisis Management

On behalf of the Armenian-Thai Chamber of Commerce, we participated in an event titled “Sustainable Governance, Risk, and Crisis Management” organized by the Singapore – Thai Chamber of Commerce & Singapore Institute of Management at the W Bangkok Hotel on 15 March 2025. The event began with a brief introduction by STCC Director Jaruwat Kiatiwongse, inviting the panelists who in turn explored the evolving landscape ESG in the business community, the role of leadership, citing the relevance of keeping pace with change management and pursuing the goal of a common, Greener Future.
The ensuing discussions were moderated by Johan Bin Azman from Singapore Institute of Management’s Global Education Lead.

Interesting selection of panelists included expert consultant Dr. Bordin Vongvitayapirom from Deloitte Thailand, a hands-on business leader Mr. Ken Yong from CWS Global Coatings, and Academic; Assistant Professor Steve Keepax from the University of Birmingham.
Discussions centered on integrating a strategic understanding of Sustainability in everyday business practices, crisis preparedness, and leadership’s role in driving real change with a “greener” mindset. Key leadership skills, rightly pointed out by Ken Yong highlighted adaptability to changing times, encouraging and implementing a Sustainability-driven purpose, troubleshooting at times of business instability, and adopting a compliant attitude for new government legislations.

The event provided insights into Thailand’s upcoming Sustainability related policies (currently under consideration), including the draft tax legislations and the shift toward a green economy and subsequent corporate accountabilities.
Panelists emphasized on the importance of connecting digital infrastructure, including the entrepreneurial thinking in Sustainability operations, and responsibility in people management. The integration of AI and AI-driven logic was identified as a critical tool for research and assessing Sustainability strategies.
Speakers stressed that companies should practice purpose-drives efforts such as conduct environmental impact assessments, utilize scenario planning, practice game theory, and ensure transparent disclosure mechanisms. Businesses can enhance corporate values by embedding green credentials into operations, finance, leadership, and supply chain management.
Proper training by SIM and structured internal processes were also recommended to improve Sustainability governance.
The event reinforced that Sustainable leadership is about creating long-term value by addressing all stakeholders effectively in a complex global economy.
